Interpreting, Translation, and Captioning ASL
Communicate effectively with Deaf and hard of hearing employees and customers.
For over 80 years, Canadian Hearing Services has been empowering Deaf and hard of hearing Canadians to overcome barriers to participation. We can help your organization meet the communication needs of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, and stay compliant with accessibility legislation.
Sign language interpreting services ASL
Our highly skilled interpreters are professionally trained in sign language and knowledgeable in the language and culture of both Deaf and hearing individuals. They provide communication in American Sign Language (ASL) - English, or la Langue des Signes Québécoise (LSQ) - French. Interpreting Services are available on-site, or through video remote technology. Video remote interpreting (VRI) services enable Deaf and hearing employees or customers to communicate through an interpreter who is off-site via videoconferencing technology.
Our interpreters can help in a variety of settings including:
- Candidate interviews
- Patient, client or customer interactions
- Business meetings and conferences
We recommend sending your pre-scheduled requests for service 1-2 weeks in advance to ensure interpreter availability.
Emergency services are available 24/7 by calling: 1-866-518-0000 (option #1), emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or sending a text message to (416) 712-6637.
Captioning services ASL
Captioning Services at Canadian Hearing Services turn spoken word into text, allowing for effective communication with people who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Captioning Services can be used in a variety of settings including interviews, group meetings, and presentations.
Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) is the professional word-for-word transcription of speech to text in real-time and provides Deaf and hard of hearing individuals with full access to the spoken word. The text can be displayed on a laptop screen or projected onto a large screen for classrooms, conferences, or meetings. Service can be provided in English or French, either on-site or remotely.
As members of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), our CART writers adhere to a Professional Code of Ethics and transcribe at 180 to 225 words per minute with a 98% verbatim accuracy rate.
