About this event

Important Notice: Course dates are July 20 - September 21, 2023, 9 AM - 12 PM

ASL classes are online via Zoom

Eligibility: This course is open to ages 16+

This 10-week course is the second in a series of American Sign Language classes to further the student's abilities in refining the skills learned/retained in ASL 101. The student learns to handle Talking about Family, Talking about Activities, and Storytelling. Grammar is introduced in context with an emphasis on using question and answer skills, directions, and descriptions. Cultural notes and videos provide information on Deaf Culture and Deaf Community.

Pre-requisite:

Successful completion of ASL101 or recommendation by way of a placement test.

A “no-voice” teaching method is used to reinforce the learning experience. You'll learn through virtual classroom instruction and role-play, as well as videotext and a workbook. The videotext and workbook supplement and reinforce the virtual classroom instruction so you can review, practice and retain what you learn.

Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: please register as soon as possible to avoid course cancellations due to insufficient registrations. In some cases, we may reduce the number of course hours to accommodate smaller registration numbers. We do this so that the course can continue for the benefit of our student’s progress. If there is a change, we will notify you.

CLASS CANCELLATION PROTOCOL:

Class Cancellation Protocol: notifications will be sent by email by 3 PM on the day of cancellation, with a request to acknowledge receipt. In cases where an acknowledgment is not received, a follow-up phone call will be made. Please check your email, and voice mail and ensure that the office has your updated email and phone numbers. A make-up date will be added at the end of the schedule. A class missed by a student cannot be made up at any other time or in any other session. Tutoring services are available by contacting the office and the fee is $50 per hour.

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact asleducation@chs.ca

What's the refund policy?

A full refund of the registration cost will be provided up to five (5) business days before the course begins. In extenuating circumstances, you can submit a written request for consideration after the course begins, but before the start of the second class.
