Deafblind Services

Our skilled intervenors assist people with vision and hearing loss in all aspects of daily life.

Our experienced intervenors support people who have a combined loss of vision and hearing to allow them to participate in all aspects of daily life.

What we offer

Communication is especially difficult for people with both vision and hearing loss. Our intervenors provide the visual and auditory information necessary to enable people with deafblindness to interact successfully with other people and their environment.

Our intervenors adapt to the communication preferences of our clients, including American Sign Language (ASL), English, braille or two-hand manual. We offer limited service in French and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ).

Deafblind Services are available free of charge.

Where we can help

Intervenors assist in activities including:

  • medical appointments
  • educational pursuits
  • social services
  • transportation to and from appointments
  • personal business and legal affairs

Intervenor Services Human Resource Strategy

The Intervenor Services Human Resource Strategy (ISHRS) is a multi-year initiative funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) to establish training and standards for intervenor Services, increasing the number of skilled intervenors, and improving the quality of services for individuals who are deafblind.  For more information on the strategy, to sign up for our quarterly newsletter, and/or to follow us on social media, please visit the following link:
