We provide hearing tests, hearing aid services, hearing healthcare, mental health counselling, general support services, sign language interpreting and communication devices products.

Hamilton has been serving the Greater Hamilton area, Burlington and Niagara area for 45 years. CHS Hamilton is the second-oldest CHS location after Toronto and has recently relocated to 50 Dundurn St. South, Unit 119. Our new office includes a fully functioning communication devices room for our clients to test accessible devices. CHS Hamilton is located in the Fortino's Plaza and has free parking available.

Communication Devices

We offer expert advice, sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices to enhance communication for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

We’re here to help you find the best technical solutions, at the best price, to enhance communication in your home or at your business, organization or facility.

Visit our fully functional communication devices testing room. Try different devices to see what best fits your needs and speak to our experienced staff for answers to all your questions.

Educational Support Services

If you’re a culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened or hard of hearing part-time student registered at a publicly-funded Ontario college or university, you can apply for free classroom accommodations so you can participate in the classroom experience.

Educational Support Services are offered at most CHS locations.

Sign language interpreters

Ontario Interpreting Services at CHS provides American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting services across Ontario, and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)–French interpreting services primarily in the Ottawa and Sudbury regions, but arrangements can be made for other locations in the province.

For your convenience, all bookings are done through our centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa.

Hearing tests

We offer hearing tests for adults and children aged 3 years and over. If you have a hearing loss, our experienced audiologist will help find the best solution for you.

Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 AM-5 PM

Hearing aid services

If you need a hearing aid for the first time or want to replace one you already have, our experienced audiologist will make sure you find the one that’s right for your hearing loss and your budget.

Hearing Help classes

Don’t give up your favourite activities because of hearing loss. We offer Hearing Help classes so you can learn about:

  • hearing loss and hearing aids
  • communication devices
  • speech reading and communication strategies
  • assertiveness training and stress management
  • and much more

Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences. Bring your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.  

Classes are offered in an accessible classroom that is looped for your convenience. This allows you to switch on your hearing aid T-coil so you can hear without interference from ambient noise. Ask us about this accessible feature.

You can also request a presentation or question and answer session with our audiologist during Hearing Help classes.

We offer 6 to 8 week sessions in the Fall and Spring, depending on demand. A minimum of 6 participants is required.

There is a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials and refreshments.

CONNECT Counselling

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

General Support Services

We offer free guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

We partner with Crossfire Assembly to provide the Hamilton Deaf community with workshops on a variety of health and wellness topics such as:

  • diabetes care
  • healthy eating
  • bedbugs
  • community policing
  • Video Relay Services
  • budgeting
  • understanding the information on food labels

Workshops are offered the 3rd Wednesday of each month,  1PM- 4PM, September to June (no workshops in July or August) at 458 King Street West, Hamilton, Ontario.


Hearing Care Counselling

If you’re 55 or older and have a hearing loss, we offer free counselling services to help you improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home. Home visits can be arranged as required.

We also serve younger adults (aged 19 and over) with other challenges as well as hearing loss who require home-based services

Our counsellors can also educate care providers, service providers and support groups on how to provide accessible services for people with hearing loss.

Family Communication Program

This individualized sign language instruction program helps parents continue developing their sign language communication skills to keep pace with their school-aged children who are Deaf or hard of hearing. It is only available at CHS Hamilton.


  • 9 two-hour sessions
  • a schedule is arranged between the instructor and the family 
  • an initial meeting between the family and instructor is accompanied by a sign language interpreter to help facilitate goal setting and discussion

Sign language classes for Individuals

For Individuals

Sign language classes at CHS offer you an enjoyable and effective curriculum to learn American Sign Language (ASL) through classroom instruction, videotext and role-playing. Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

Courses are offered in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer if minimum class size requirements are reached.


Video Conferencing Services

Bring people together at different sites across Ontario for one-on-one or group meetings, interviews and training sessions and save travel time and money with our state-of the-art video conferencing services.
