7th Annual President's Scholarship Day of Golf

The Annual President’s Scholarship Day of Golf is Canadian Hearing Services’ signature event in support of our National Scholarship Program.
Canadian Hearing Services’ National Scholarship Program is the largest scholarship program in Canada that exclusively supports Deaf and hard of hearing students. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event support Deaf and hard of hearing Canadian students seeking to pursue their post-secondary education by providing scholarships that break down the financial barriers to participation and support the extra costs associated with hearing accommodation in a higher learning environment.
The National Scholarship Program was launched in 2017, and thanks to the support of so many generous golfers, donors and sponsors, to date, we have provided 107 scholarships to 51 Deaf and hard of hearing students across Canada. Fifteen of those students have since graduated from their post-secondary programs!

Among adults aged 15 and older with a hearing disability, 84.2% stated that their educational experiences were directly impacted by their disability, and 32.8% of them reported that they were impacted by additional school expenses due to their disability.

BREAKING DOWN BARRIERS
One of the barriers to post-secondary education that Deaf and hard of hearing students experience is incurring extra costs associated with hearing accommodation. Some examples of hearing accommodation include note takers, interpreters, tutors, personal listening devices and other communication devices. These costs are often not covered by universities and colleges through their own accessibility programs, and thus must be paid by the Deaf and hard of hearing students themselves. This can often be a huge financial barrier to overcome!
Thanks to our National Scholarship Program, CHS is helping to break down financial barriers by providing scholarships that support the extra costs associated with hearing accommodation. Your generous support can mean a world of difference for Deaf and hard of hearing students seeking to fulfil their ambitions and careers!
MEET SOME OF OUR SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS
In September 2022, Canadian Hearing Services awarded a record 24 scholarships to Deaf and hard of hearing post-secondary students – surpassing the record of 23 recipients from the previous year.
Each year, student winners share their thoughts on the impact of the National Scholarship Program.
