POSITION: Mental Health Psychotherapist (CONNECT Counselor)
DEPARTMENT: CONNECT COUNSELLING SERVICES
LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay
START DATE: Immediately
MINIMUM START SALARY: $61,782.08 per annum
POSITION STATUS: Permanent; Full-time, 35 hours per week
Note: this position will provide services to both the Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay communities. The successful applicant can be based in either location.
To screen, assess and provide ongoing client therapy, counselling and case management to culturally Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. To initiate and facilitate group sessions related to community mental health issues. Work closely with Counselling team members to educate, consult and build partnerships with service providers and consumers regarding Mental Health and issues related to culturally Deaf and hard of hearing communities.
- Provide counselling and case management using various theoretical frameworks and interventions in relation to individual client and family needs.
- Prepare psycho-social assessments and provide short and long-term treatment plans to address specific client goals.
- Provide psycho-education, consultation and referrals to clients regarding mental health issues.
- Provide education and consultation to mainstream agencies regarding hearing loss and accessibility.
- Complete intake assessments as appropriate and required, participate in case conference meetings and work with clients and their families as assigned.
- Initiate, maintain and update accurate client reports, case notes, files, assessment forms, statistics database and other information as required by CHS/government policies and procedures.
- Research, develop and prepare materials related to clinical client intervention and services.
LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports to the Program Manager, Counselling Services
- Master’s degree in Social Work/Counselling Psychology or equivalent.
- 3-5 years’ work experience in mental health, clinical social work or equivalent – preferably with an adult psychiatric population.
- Member of a regulated college.
- Experience working with adult individuals and couples.
- Experience with families, children and adolescents would be an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous people would be an asset.
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn.
- Fluency in French is an asset.
- Knowledge of the experience of Audism.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and facilitate psychoeducational workshops for clients and training for service providers.
- Knowledge/experience with the Deaf community, Deaf Culture, individuals who are hard of hearing and issues related to hearing loss.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated creativity and flexibility.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment.
- Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle
