Rex Banks 1st recipient of the Audiologist of the Year award

Congratulations to our Director of Hearing Healthcare and Quality, Rex Banks, on being recognized as Audiologist of the Year from the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. This award recognizes his outstanding contributions to the field of audiology through his leadership, research and passion for helping people with hearing loss.

“Receiving OSLA’s Audiologist of the Year Award inspires me to continue to advocate for both my profession and for people with hearing loss,” said Rex.

Rex is the chief audiologist at CHS and has been practicing since 1989. This award coincides with his 30th anniversary as an audiologist. Rex was initially inspired to become an audiologist after meeting a Deaf man when he was just 12 years old. In addition to being registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), Rex is also a certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology (CCC-A) designation.

Rex has been an active advocate in audiology, working as a volunteer with organizations including:

  • Canadian Academy of Audiology (President and board member)
  • Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (President)
  • Toronto Central Local Health Integrated Network
  • Ontario Special Olympics Healthy Hearing / Healthy Athletes Program (1st Ontario Director)
  • Acoustic Neuroma Association of Canada (Past President and advisor)
  • Statistics Canada (research advisor)
  • Health Quality Ontario (clinical advisor)

On Monday, our staff in Toronto surprised Rex with a special lunch to celebrate his contributions to CHS. We are grateful for Rex's continued dedication to improving the audiology field and helping those with hearing loss.
