The 2015 Canadian Federal election will be held on October 19, 2015 to elect members to the House of Commons.
Questions for Federal Candidate(s)
The purpose of these questions is to make all candidates in the upcoming Federal election aware of four critical issues facing Canada’s culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing citizens. Our aim is to spark constructive and creative political debate from which we trust will emerge real solutions, real commitment and real movement forward.
1. United Nations Convention of the Rights for Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
Canada has signed and ratified the CRPD and Canada needs to sign and ratify the Optional Protocol of the CRPD asking for developing an implementation plan that makes the promise of the CRDP a reality for Canadians with disabilities (i.e., Government of Canada name and support the Canadian Human Rights Commissions as the CRPD monitoring body).
We ask the next government to make a commitment to sign and ratify the Optional Protocol of the CRPD. Will your party make this commitment?
2. Canadians with Disabilities Act: Barrier-Free Canada
We ask the next government to make a commitment for introducing and passing a strong, effective and enforceable Canadians with Disabilities Act to promote access to federal programs, facilities, benefits, communications and services within and under federal jurisdiction for Canadians with disabilities. Will your party make this commitment?
3. Comprehensive National Hearing Health Care Strategy
We ask the next government to make a commitment to develop and implement a comprehensive National Hearing Health Care strategy. Will your party make this commitment?
4. Elections Canada Act: Funding Accessible Candidates Meeting
We ask the next government to make a commitment to develop and introduce an amendment to the Elections Act to include funding regulations for funding accessible all candidates meetings and require central parties to fund accessible election campaign information and communication materials. Will your party make this commitment?
