General Support Services

Get assistance to manage everyday life events from completing government forms to attending court and coping with hearing loss.

Our counsellors offer guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

Who we serve

  • individuals aged 16 and over who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing
  • families with children under age 16 who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing

What we offer

Our services are free-of-charge, confidential and provided in an accessible environment using American Sign Language (ASL) or la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ).

We work with you to:

  • complete forms and applications, e.g. housing applications
  • renew or replace a driver’s license, health card or passport
  • navigate through government services such as:
    • Employment Insurance (EI)
    • Ontario Works (Welfare)
    • Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
    • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
    • Citizenship and Immigration
    • Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

We can also:

  • provide information and assistance in advocating for your rights
  • attend meetings with you and your government case worker, lawyer or landlord
  • provide assessments and recommendations for communication devices
  • refer you to other CHS programs and services or agencies and organizations that offer alternate services as needed
