Serving the Peterborough area and the communities of Kawartha Lakes including Lindsay, Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls, and Northumberland County including Cobourg, Port Hope and Haliburton.

Centrally located near a hospital, retirement residences, medical clinics and the downtown core, CHS Peterborough is found on Reid Street on the #7 Lansdowne W bus route. Since 1979, CHS Peterborough has been offering services to the Peterborough community, where about one in five residents is aged 65 or older – the highest ratio in the country among municipalities

Hearing help classes

Don’t give up your favourite activities because of hearing loss. We offer Hearing Help classes so you can learn about:

  • hearing loss and hearing aids
  • communication devices
  • speech reading and communication strategies
  • assertiveness training and stress management
  • and much more

Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences. Bring your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.

Classes are offered twice a year.

 

CONNECT Counselling Services

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

Hours:
Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM

 

General Support Services

We offer free guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM

Languages: ASL, English

Hearing Care Counselling

If you’re 55 or older and have a hearing loss, we offer free counselling services to help you improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home. Home visits can be arranged as required.

We also serve younger adults (aged 19 and over) with other challenges as well as hearing loss who require home-based services.

Our counsellors can also educate care providers, service providers and support groups on how to provide accessible services for people with hearing loss.

Services for job seekers

Our employment consultants specialize in the unique needs of adults aged 16 and over who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing to help you find a job and succeed at work.

We can help you find qualified candidates for job opportunities in your organization or business, and implement strategies to make your workplace accessible to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing employees and consumers.

Video Conferencing Services

Bring people together at different sites across Ontario for one-on-one or group meetings, interviews and training sessions and save travel time and money with our state-of the-art video conferencing services.

Sign Language Interpreters

Ontario Interpreting Services at CHS provides American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting services across Ontario, and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)–French interpreting services primarily in the Ottawa and Sudbury regions, but arrangements can be made for other locations in the province.


For your convenience, all bookings are done through our centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa.
