Located in downtown North Bay, we offer counselling, general support, home assessments, communication devices, deafblind services, sign language classes and employment services.

About CHS North Bay

CHS North Bay has been serving people living in North Bay and the districts of Parry Sound, Nipissing and Timiskaming since 1988.

Our office is centrally located in the downtown core of North Bay within walking distance of City Hall and close to Memorial Gardens arena and the Northgate Mall. The office is located at the corner of King and Ferguson Streets, in Central Plaza. We are easily accessible by public transit and there is ample parking. 

Our dedicated five-member team strives to meet the individual needs of our consumers and provides home assessments, needs assessments and strategies to cope with hearing loss upon request. 

Communication Devices

We offer expert advice, sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices to enhance communication for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

We’re here to help you find the best technical solutions, at the best price, to enhance communication in your home or at your business, organization or facility.

Deafblind Services

Our experienced intervenors act as the eyes and ears of people who have a combined loss of vision and hearing to allow them to participate fully in all aspects of daily life. Deafblind Services are available free of charge.

Hours: Monday-Friday 9 AM-5 PM
(Available outside regular office hours by appointment only)

Languages offered: English, ASL, limited French and LSQ, and hand-over-hand and/or braille based upon request and need.

Sign language interpreters

Ontario Interpreting Services at CHS provides American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting services across Ontario, and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)–French interpreting services primarily in the Ottawa and Sudbury regions, but arrangements can be made for other locations in the province.

For your convenience, all bookings are done through our centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa.

CONNECT Counselling

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

General Support Services

We offer guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

For Individuals
Sign language classes at CHS offer you an enjoyable and effective curriculum to learn

American Sign Language (ASL) through classroom instruction, videotext and role-playing, and also teach you about Deaf culture. Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum developed at Vista Community College in Berkeley, California that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

For Businesses
CHS also offers workplace classes customized to the needs of businesses and organizations who want their employees to learn American Sign Language (ASL) to improve communication with their customers, clients and co-workers. To learn more about sign language classes for businesses, click here

Hours: Dates and times of classes are based on instructor availability and student enrolment. Classes run for 10 weeks at 2 hours per class.
