Belleville

CHS Belleville offers a range of specialized services for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals.

CHS Belleville has been serving the Deaf and hard of hearing communities in Belleville, Quinte West, and Prince Edward and Hastings counties since 1983. Our office is located in the Bayview Mall in Belleville. Our dedicated team is actively involved in partnerships with Police and Fire services, Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf and the Belleville Deaf Association. We’re also a member agency of the United Way of Quinte.

Communication Devices

We offer expert advice, sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices to enhance communication for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

We’re here to help you find the best technical solutions, at the best price, to enhance communication in your home or at your business, organization or facility.

Educational Support Services

If you’re a culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened or hard of hearing part-time student registered at a publicly-funded Ontario college or university, you can apply for free classroom accommodations so you can participate in the classroom experience.


Educational Support Services are offered at most CHS locations.

Sign language interpreters

Ontario Interpreting Services at CHS provides American Sign Language (ASL)-English interpreting services across Ontario, and la langue des signes québécoise (LSQ)–French interpreting services primarily in the Ottawa and Sudbury regions, but arrangements can be made for other locations in the province.


For your convenience, all bookings are done through our centralized scheduling centre in Ottawa.

Monday-Thursday 8 AM-8 PM
Friday 8 AM-5 PM

Hearing Help classes

Don’t give up your favourite activities because of hearing loss. We offer Hearing Help classes so you can learn about:

  • hearing loss and hearing aids
  • communication devices
  • speech reading and communication strategies
  • assertiveness training and stress management
  • and much more

Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences. Bring your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.

There is a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials and refreshments.

CONNECT Counselling

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

General Support Services

We offer free guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

Evenings and weekends by appointment

Hearing Care Counselling

If you’re 55 or older and have a hearing loss, we offer free counselling services to help you improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home. Home visits can be arranged as required.

We also serve younger adults (aged 19 and over) with other challenges as well as hearing loss who require home-based services.

Our counsellors also provide Hearing Health Care Clinics in long-term care facilities, retirement homes and community health centres which offer:

  • hearing aid cleaning
  • basic ear exams (otoscopy)
  • education and counselling
  • hearing screening
  • referrals as needed

Services for Job Seekers

Our employment consultants specialize in the unique needs of adults aged 16 and over who are culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. If you live in Belleville or the surrounding area, we can help you find a job and succeed at work.

Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

Courses are offered in the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer if minimum class size requirements are reached.
