A hearing test helps to determine if there is a hearing loss, and if so, the nature and degree of the loss.  So, you don't need to suspect hearing loss to have your hearing tested; it always helps to understand your hearing.

What To Expect

You can usually have your hearing tested and get your results during the same appointment. 

If this is your first time getting tested, the audiologist will introduce you to the process and ask questions about your background, medical history, employment and sound environments.  The information you provide will help us give you an accurate evaluation and will be kept confidential.

You will then be asked to sit in a sound-treated booth.  You'll be able to see the audiologist through a window from within the booth.  The audiologist will fit you with a variety of headphones or earpieces, then generate a series of sounds.  You'll be asked to indicate if you hear the sounds by raising your hand or pressing a button.  You may also be asked to repeat words spoken by the audiologist.  The process is completely painless. 

Afterwards you will be given an audiogram, which is a chart recording the results of your hearing test. 

If you wear a hearing aid, it will also be tested to make sure it is working properly and matches your hearing profile.
