The Canadian Hearing Society announces Appointment of New President and CEO

Toronto, ON (June 23, 2010) - The Canadian Hearing Society’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Kenopic as President and Chief Executive Officer effective June 25, 2010.

Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge after serving more than 20 years with various organizations prior to his most recent role as Regional Director of CHS Hamilton.

Chris has a long-standing connection with the Deaf community and his six years with CHS Hamilton have heightened his sensitivity, awareness and dedication to the issues encountered by oral deaf individuals, hard of hearing people, and seniors with acquired hearing loss.

Chris will use his proven passion and broad-based skills and strengths to the advantage and service of culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in order to realize CHS’s vision of a barrier-free society.

Chris has a BA in Communication Arts from Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. Among his many community roles, Chris was Chair of the World Congress of the World Federation of the Deaf held in Montreal in 2003, is currently Chair of the Deaf Focus Group for the Provincial Schools for the Deaf, member of the Provincial and Demonstration School Council, a member of the Halton Hills Municipality Accessibility Committee, and a member of the Halton Regional Accessibility Committee.

Chris and his wife Laureen live in Georgetown with their four children.
