Don’t give up your favourite activities because of your hearing loss. Hearing Help Classes will teach you how to overcome the challenges that come with losing your hearing.  You will learn about your hearing loss, hearing aids, speechreading and coping strategies.  Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences.  Bring along your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.

What You'll Learn

Speechreading

Particular emphasis is placed on learning how to speechread (also called lipreading).  Where you cannot speechread you'll also learn some strategies for helping you communicate better.  For example, when someone is not facing you while speaking, or when you're talking on the phone.

Communication Devices

You'll also learn about the wide variety of communication devices available to assist you in everyday tasks normally involving hearing, such as amplified phones and alerting devices.

Your Hearing Aid

You'll learn about your hearing aids and how to use and maintain them.  Also how hearing aids work, their limitations, and what kind of sound environment provides ideal hearing conditions.

Individual Sessions And The Elderhostel Program

If you're not comfortable in a classroom, individual sessions can be arranged.  If you're a senior you may also be interested in our offerings through the Elderhostel program.

Five Different Levels Of Classes

There are five different levels of classes.  Our most popular and essential, "Getting The Most Out Of Your Hearing Aid", is free of charge if you've recently purchased a hearing aid from CHS.

The five levels are as follows:

  • Speechreading - Beginner

  • Speechreading - Advanced
