We provide hearing healthcare, mental health counselling, general support services, sign language interpreting, communication devices products, and many other services from our St. Catharines office.

About CHS Niagara

Located near Market Square in downtown St. Catharines, the 5th floor of 55 King Street has been home to CHS Niagara for the past four years, though CHS Niagara staff have served the Niagara Region for more than 15 years. Our location is fully accessible for wheelchairs, including elevators and automated doors for convenience.

Communication Devices

We offer expert advice, sales, installation and training on a wide range of communication devices to enhance communication for culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people.

We’re here to help you find the best technical solutions, at the best price, to enhance communication in your home or at your business, organization or facility.

Visit our fully functional communication devices testing room. Try different devices to see what best fits your needs and speak to our experienced staff for answers to all your questions.

Educational Support Services – post secondary

Hearing Help classes

Don’t give up your favourite activities because of hearing loss. We offer Hearing Help classes so you can learn about:

  • hearing loss and hearing aids
  • communication devices
  • speech reading and communication strategies
  • assertiveness training and stress management
  • and much more

Meet other people with hearing loss and share common experiences. Bring your spouse or a friend so you can both benefit.

We offer 6 to 8 week sessions in the Fall and Spring, depending on demand. A minimum of 6 participants is required.

There is a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials and refreshments.

CONNECT Counselling

CONNECT Counselling at CHS Niagara

We offer free professional counselling services to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages, and their families, dealing with mental health issues, addiction, relationship problems, domestic violence or other serious challenges.

General Support Services

We offer free guidance, advocacy, support and counselling to culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals who request assistance to manage everyday life events including completing government forms and developing strategies to cope with hearing loss.

Hearing Care Counselling for Ages 55+

If you’re 55 or older and have a hearing loss, we offer free counselling services to help you improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home. Home visits can be arranged as required. We also serve younger adults (aged 19 and over) with other challenges as well as hearing loss who require home-based services Our counsellors can also educate care providers, service providers and support groups on how to provide accessible services for people with hearing loss.

Sign Language Classes

For Individuals

Sign language classes at CHS offer you an enjoyable and effective curriculum to learn American Sign Language (ASL) through classroom instruction, videotext and role-playing. Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community.

Classes require a minimum of 11 students (14 students maximum).

Our ASL courses are recognized for credit by local colleges and universities. Ask us how.

For Businesses, Schools, Agencies
