The After-Hours Emergency Interpreting ServiceThe After-Hours Emergency Interpreting Service is a sign language interpreting service for health or mental health emergencies. The service is available in Ontario from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. on weeknights and 24 hours/day on weekends and holidays. Interpreters will also be provided if there is an urgent situation involving Children's Aid Societies. Who pays for the service?Hospitals and Children's Aid Societies are obligated by law to pay for the cost of interpreting services. Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care provides funding to cover the cost of interpreting services in smaller community agencies. There is no cost to the deaf, deafened or hard of hearing person.
