Toronto, ON - The CHS Board of Directors thanks Kelly Duffin, CHS’s
esteemed former President and CEO (2003 – 2009) for her valuable
contribution to CHS and wishes her the very best in the next chapter of
her life.
The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Denis Morrice as
interim President and CEO as it actively recruits and hires for the
position. Morrice is well acquainted with CHS having been the Society’s
Executive Director for 17 years, at a time of incredible growth.
“I am thrilled to return to CHS and see the tremendous development that
this organization has experienced under the leadership of Kelly Duffin,
her team, and Board of Directors. CHS has a long history of meeting the
needs of culturally Deaf, oral deaf, deafened and hard of hearing
people, and their families, and continues to address issues and remove
barriers confronting CHS consumers in their daily lives," says Morrice
who has come out of retirement to accept the interim appointment.
During his tenure from 1975 to 1992, Mr. Morrice oversaw the development
CHS’s Ontario Interpreting Services in partnership with the Ontario
Association of the Deaf; CONNECT Counselling Services; the Bell Canada
Relay Service; CHS Hearing Aid Program, engaging members of the hard of
hearing community; and put into place the services of an Ear, Nose and
Throat (ENT) physician. He also oversaw the building of CHS’s head
office on Spadina Road, moving the organization from its small roots to
its current location.
CHS Board of Directors co chairs Len Mitchell and Joanne DeLuzio are
excited about Mr. Morrice’s appointment and say, “Denis is a perfect fit
during this time of transition at CHS. He knows CHS’s consumers,
funders, partners, and shares the Society’s vision and mission. He is
working alongside a senior management team that has more than 140
collective years of experience, ensuring a smooth transition to new
leadership and an exciting new future for CHS.”
