Minister Cho's visit to CHS

On Nov. 5th, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Honourable Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility to tour our Toronto office, where he experienced our accessibility products and services firsthand.

Minister Cho was greeted by President and CEO, Julia Dumanian and VP of Stakeholder and Employer Relations, Gary Malkowski. They began their tour with a visit to the CHS store where they were introduced to the barrier-free products that we offer in the store and online.

Next, Minister Cho and his delegation were given an overview of the Audiology department by the Canadian Hearing Society’s Director of Hearing Healthcare, Dr. Rex Banks. This was followed by a tour of the Employment Resources Centre.

At the Employment Resources Centre, Minister Cho watched Employment Consultant, Sammy Jo Johnson deliver support to several clients. Brain McKenzie, Director of Training and Employment Services, delivered an overview of CHS’s Employment Services including the Workplace Literacy Program, Barrier-Free Education initiatives, and other Supported Employment projects.

The tour wrapped up with a presentation of CHS’s Accessibility Solutions by Cheryl Wilson, Director of Interpreting and Translation Services and Melanie Bain, Communications Device Specialist including CART Services and HearClear solutions.

As Canada’s leading, largest, and only accredited organization advancing a barrier-free society for members of the Deaf and hard of hearing communities, Minister Cho’s visit was an informal opportunity to experience the Canadian Hearing Society’s expertise and accessibility in action.
